Organic gift shop opening today

Berwyn — At Mainline Green Home, the merchandise is eco-elegant.

Take for example the line of vases for sale. An old bedspring and empty cobalt-blue wine bottle are combined and elevated to a work of modern art.

The new store in Berwyn's Primary Shops specializes in gifts made from organic materials for babies, teens and adults.

"We want to be good stewards of the earth," said the Rev. Karen Parsons about her family's store.

Parsons is a North Carolina native with a soothing Southern drawl and whose amicable personality is as comforting as her line of organic baby blankets. Her family once sold their home, gave away many of their possessions and moved to rugged Skagway, Alaska, for a year and a half while she served as pastor of that town's First Presbyterian Church.

Today, she is living in an old Berwyn Victorian and is a parish associate, a volunteer position involving teaching adult Sunday school and occasional preaching, at nearby Trinity Presbyterian Church.
