2014 Community First Natural Life Music Festival Reveal Band Line-up

What started in 2001 at the Beaches as a neighborhood gathering called “Crafternoon,” has evolved into one of the region’s most enlivening family music festivals. The 2014 Community First Natural Life Music Festival will transform Metropolitan Park into an indie-folk music festival on Sunday, March 16, 2014 from 11AM to 6PM. The event includes an artisan market, an array of healthy food vendors and still hosts “Crafternoon” – craft stations for families with children of all ages. It’s a day to slow down and enjoy the little things in life that mean the most.

Festival organizers from Jacksonville-based, not-for-profit Natural Life for Children 501(c)3, have finalized the musical lineup for the free admission event, which aims to raise funds for charities benefitting children in need. This year’s festival will feature performances by some of the country’s top talent in indie folk music:

Sarah Jarosz:

Sarah Jarosz is a 22- year-old, Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who hails from just outside Austin, TX. She has been called “a songwriter of uncommon wisdom” and described as a contemporary-bluegrass prodigy. Jarosz is widely regarded as one of acoustic music’s most promising young talents: a singer-songwriter and mandolin and banjo prodigy with the taste and poise to strike that rare balance of commercial and critical success. Sarah recently received Two Grammy Nominations! Best American Roots Song, “Build Me Up From Bones” and Best Folk Album of 2013.

Della Mae

Della Mae proves again and again the endless possibilities found in the tried-and-true marriage of fiddle, fretboard, and voice. Their lineup is a who’s-who of promising young pickers: lead singer Celia Woodsmith, guitarist Courtney Hartman, bass player, Shelby Means, mandolinist Jenni Lyn Gardner and two-time National Fiddle Champion Kimber Ludiker are all seasoned performers who have won countless contests and shared the stage with the likes of Willie Nelson, Del McCoury, Leon Russell and Laurie Lewis. Della Mae is what happens when five women decide to tour the world.

Larkin Poe

When you attend a Larkin Poe concert, it is impossible not to see and hear that these sisters have soul and musical prowess well beyond their years. At 22 and 24 respectively, Rebecca & Megan Lovell are charismatic performers, experienced songwriters, and accomplished musicians. Featuring tight vocal harmonies and dizzying instrumental riffs, the music of Larkin Poe ranges from Folk-Rock to Acoustic R&B, from grooving Jam Band to delicate singer-songwriter – Larkin Poe is versatile, entertaining, and totally authentic in all that they do.

Honey Honey

Burlap and opals. Moonshine and macrobiotics. Shaken and soothed. How Suzanne Santo (vocals/banjo/violin) and Ben Jaffe (vocals/guitar) managed to reconcile not just polemics, but seemingly opposed realities for their sexually tinged, bruised knee honeysuckle take on roots music has to be heard to be understood. “…honey honey deftly mixes elements of folk, soul, country, pop, and rock…” – Glide

The bands for this year’s festival were hand-picked by local Jacksonville promoter Tib Miller of Flying Saucer Presents and Natural Life owner and Creative Guru, Patti Hughes. The line-up was announced by festival organizers Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Community First Saturdays held downtown.
