Accent on Design Accepts New Participants for Summer 2013 Market

Some 20+ companies, representing a range of design-oriented product categories, will join the juried ranks of 150 contemporary and innovative product suppliers exhibiting in Accent on Design®, Sunday, August 18, through Wednesday, August 21, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Accent on Design, the industry’s standard-bearer for design-driven home and lifestyle merchandise, is presented semi-annually at NY NOW®, the Market for Home & Lifestyle (formerly NYIGF®).

“Accent on Design will continue its decades-long tradition as a showcase for cutting-edge contemporary product design,” said Christian Falkenberg, NY NOW director and GLM senior vice president. “These newly-accepted companies, as well as a number of design leaders returning to Accent on Design following an absence from the market, will bring an infusion of new design-driven home and lifestyle resources to NY NOW this summer.”

From some 160 applications received, nine companies were accepted as first-time Accent on Designexhibitors: Ampersand (handmade lighting and home furnishings); Farrah Sit (home décor); Lufdesign and hada.mi design (home and office accessories); Materious (home furnishings); Moto Design Co., Ltd (clocks and office accessories); Nuline Distribution (lighting); Red Delicous (design collective); See Concept (reading glasses); Spazio8 snc / brand :Slow (tabletop, home furnishings and stationery); and Strand Design (home furnishings).

Other summer 2013 newcomers to Accent on Design include five current New York Market exhibitors moving into Accent on Design from other locations: Arbiter (tabletop); Assouline Publishing (books and stationery); Kinto Co.,Ltd, (tabletop); Joseph Joseph (kitchen accessories and cookware); and Sempli (tabletop).

Additionally, Accent on Design will welcome nine companies returning to the market following a hiatus: Bend Seating (home furnishings); bitplay INC. (home and office accessories); Donna Wilson (accessories and home furnishings); iittala (tableware and cookware); J-ME (home and office accessories); mau (sustainable Tyvek clothing); MENU/Creative Danes (housewares); Neo (neoprene accessories and home furnishings); Nervous System (art, jewelry, and housewares).

Additional summer market highlights include the return of two design collectives, JOIN Design Seattle and the American Design Club (AmDC), to showcase emerging and innovative designers. The A+™: The Young Designers’ Platform at Accent on Design also will return to the summer market with a juried “design incubator” showcase, introducing the work of emerging designers, selected on the basis of design concept, creativity and originality.

For more than 25 years, Accent on Design has been the industry’s leading source of design-driven home and lifestyle merchandise. Its dynamic, juried collection of contemporary and innovative products is presented semi-annually within the NY NOW HOME Collection.

NY NOW, the Market for Home & Lifestyle, will run Saturday, August 17, through Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and Passenger Ship Terminal Pier 94. NY NOW’s four comprehensive collections – HOME, LIFESTYLE, HANDMADE and NEW! – will encompass 100,000 products in 400+ product categories.
