Airport store, eatery need permanent ownersBy Celinda EmisonReporterNews.com

The naming of permanent proprietors at the restaurant and gift shop at Abilene Regional Airport is up in the air, but airport officials hope to make selections in the coming months for both establishments.

Rose to the Occasion Catering has been operating the airport restaurant for the past three weeks and has an agreement with the city to run the establishment until April 30 or until another proprietor is selected by the city.

“If we have not made a selection by then or if a newly selected operator needs more time to get started, we could extend the agreement with Rose to the Occasion,” said Airport Manager Don Green.

Monday, the gift shop reopened for the first time in a few months, with the same interim agreement.

The city will seek requests for proposals from people or companies interested in running either the restaurant or the gift shop. Tonya Vinson, who opened the Buffalo Gap Trading Post on Monday, is hoping to be selected to run it on a permanent basis. She has been busy for the past two weeks stocking the shop with Texas souvenirs, gifts, toys and books. Artwork from local artists is also sold through the gift shop.
