Area Stores Stock Up For Mother’s Day Rush
DANVILLE — A couple days are left to find the perfect Mother’s Day gift and many businesses say shoppers have been buying.
“Most of them shop the day or two before or the day of,” Jim Spencer, Big R of Tilton store manager said.
Spencer said in the 26 years he’s worked at Big R, floral baskets and planters have always been the best sellers on Mother’s Day, with shoppers not steering toward untraditional gifts.
He said shoppers converge on the floral area up until Sunday morning of Mother’s Day, with it slowing down in the afternoon. That’s when he suspects gift-givers are celebrating with their moms.
At County Market, the floral greenhouse area is always a busy place before Mother’s Day, but Matt Smith, manager of the north location at the Village Mall, said they do a pretty good business in cakes, too.
