Boston Gift show Features Rhode Island School of Design Pavilion

White Plains, NY – The Boston Gift Show, the Northeast’s top destination for discovering unique New England-made gifts and decorative accessories, will feature a Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) Pavilion for the first time at the September 15-18, 2007, edition. The Pavilion will showcase the creative genius of some of RISD’s most notable alumni, including the comic personality behind Max Mead Cartoons and the inspiration behind the popular Aster + Sage handbags.

“The addition of the RISD Pavilion will add a new dimension to the Boston Gift Show, offering attendees a glimpse at the talent that has emerged from one of the most highly-regarded educational institutions for aspiring artists,” said Tony Orlando, show manager. “These individuals have built successful businesses from their skills, and we’re confident their products will inspire attendees.”

Participating RISD alumni include Aster + Sage (handbags and home decor), Clay Trout Pottery (hand-thrown planters), DAmetals (handmade jewelry), Ding La Gift Studio (original art and flower arrangements), Jason Silverman Ceramics (ceramics with contemporary vision), Max Mead Cartoons (comic greeting cards), MC Studio (handmade glass jewelry), Nam Kim Designs Ltd. (handbags and apparel), Red Rover Clothing Co. (outerwear and accessories) and She-Weld (metal home and garden design). The RISD Pavilion will be located within the General Gift division of the Show.

RISD, founded in 1877 in Providence, Rhode Island, is a community of 2,200 artists and designers from around the world. The School prides itself on providing the highest quality education in the visual arts, design, architecture and art education. RISD’s curriculum recognizes the need for ecological sensitivity and encourages student artists and designers to consider environmental issues in creating works of cultural aesthetic benefit. RISD understands the need to think globally, teaching its students about the many cultures and ways of thinking that will give them the necessary perspective to help shape the world in which we live.

The 159th semi-annual Boston Gift Show will take place September 15-18, 2007, at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. The Show is expected to attract some 4,000 retailers, and will present more than 300 exhibitors throughout six divisions: At Home, General Gift, Handmade, Made in New England, Outdoor Living (sponsored by the Branch-Smith Publishing Family of Garden Gift Magazines) and Personal Accessories.
