Candy Land: Mother-Son Team Open Cohasset Candy Co.
Cohasset, MA – It’s not quite The Chocolate Factory, but it’s pretty much Willy Wonka’s dream come true. John Keenan, age 11, is running his own candy shop — with help from his mom, of course.
The Keenan family has poured a lot of love and plenty of pure imagination into Cohasset Candy Company, a new shop in the James Brook Crossing center, aptly located across the hall from toy store Platinum Spike. The retro-style décor, complete with pink and blue walls, a bright orange couch, and a black-and-white checkered floor, is colorful and inviting to kids of all ages. Children will run to sit in the “bouncy” chair while adults will recall the penny candy stores of their youths. While Cohasset Candy sells nickel, not penny, candy, it’s still served up in old-fashioned style: customers scoop up candy from clear plastic bins and pay by weight.
There are over 365 types of candy, from chocolate to licorice, candy buttons to bubblegum. All of the candy in the shop is made in the U.S.A.; some, like Salem-based Emergency Chocolate and the Cape Cod Cranberry Company, is made right here in Massachusetts.
