New addition
Carver – The historic Crane Brook restaurant has gone through several changes lately. The most delightful new addition to the property is the eclectic and classy gift shop, Gifts at Crane Brook.
“When people are here for lunch, it’s fun because now they have something else to do,” owner Don McKeag said. “The idea is to be reasonable with our prices, but there is also an opportunity to offer something a little different.”
The shop has a garden feel to it already, even though it is not yet fully stocked. Beautiful hyacinths, daffodils and tulips grace the shelves and draw attention to the other items for sale.
“It’s so tied into cranberry country,” McKeag said.
Shelving and some of the woodwork are directly harvested from the cranberry house that served as the main business on the property for several years. McKeag said it was a natural choice to feature all sorts of cranberry items from candles to chutney and dried fruits to spreadable ones. His family connects to the property through his grandfather, who took his cranberry crop to the location for processing.
He said some of the old machinery from the Bailey cranberry building, as well as artifacts from the blacksmith house, will be utilized as ornaments throughout the gardens and walkways, which will carry the historic theme outdoors to the grounds.
