Cash Mobs Boosting Business in Cleveland Hts., Shaker Hts.
Cleveland, OH – With the current state of the economy, some small mom-and-pop stores have been struggling to sell products and increase profit. But with a recent trend of cash mobs, these stores have been receiving a boost in income thanks to the local communities.
Andrew Samtoy, an attorney who works for the Painesville law firm Dworken and Bernstein Co., is credited with helping create the national sensation of cash mobs. Samtoy said he was attending a Cleveland Bridge Builders retreat in September 2011 when the idea formed.
“We were talking about flash mobs in which groups of kids were gathering and taking stuff from stores,” Samtoy said. “My idea was what if we went to a specific store and we took stuff off the shelves, but ended up paying for it also.”
