Desirae Haynes’ husband grumbled in the car on his way to Ceramic Dreams, but when he left he couldn’t have been more proud of the piece he painted.

At Ceramic Dreams located at 1134 E. 54th St., patrons get to paint pottery pieces in an environment that strives to be fun and relaxing.

Haynes remarked on how pottery is a reflective activity, and how easy it is to become absorbed in it.

“I told him, ‘It’ll be five minutes and you’ll be picking out colors, and you get quiet and get into it,'” Haynes, a Ceramic Dreams employee, said.

For a flat $6 studio fee, patrons have unlimited use of the studio, including the paint and materials. The studio fee also covers the glazing and firing of the pottery pieces. Pottery pieces range in price from $5 to $40.

Though it may not be in the heart of downtown Broad Ripple, customers will experience the same charm they would at any other boutique along Broad Ripple Avenue.

“I look at Broad Ripple as laid-back, but on the edge of arts and crafts,” Stefanie Covert, a patron, said. “If you look at the other shops, and then you see [Ceramic Dreams], it’s just as cute.”

Entrepreneur Tanya Roberts opened the pottery studio in June 2005 with the intent of creating a relaxing and comfortable environment for the public to be creative. The space is filled with old-fashioned diner tables and a booth, as well.
