Door-to-door chocolate a draw for early holiday shoppers in city
Bordentown City — Chocoholics beware — the downtown may be an irresistible source of temptation next week.
That’s because the Downtown Bordentown Association is kicking off the holiday season with a Chocolate Walk. From 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, local businesses will offer cocoa confections to visitors.
Event organizer and Silk and Tweed shop owner Mak Kieffer said the DBA started the event in fall 2008 and repeated it on Valentine’s Day this year as a way of drawing people to the area beyond the regular holiday rush.
“It’s so beloved it’s gotten to be a tradition,” she said. “Who doesn’t love chocolate, you know? You can’t do a banana walk or a chopped liver walk; it’s got to be something like chocolate.
“It kicks off the holidays and that festive feeling and makes Friday the 13th something people enjoy instead of fear,” she added, noting this year’s ominous date.
At her store at 148 Farnsworth Ave., Ms. Kieffer will serve her signature cookie, which she said she’s been making since her children were young.
“It’s two chocolate cookies I make with a filling, like my own personal Oreo,” she explained. “It seems to go over very well — I always run out.”
