Extracts Presents Best New Product Awards

New York, NY – Danielle and Company was awarded “Best of Show” yesterday in the Best New Product Awards competition at EX*TRACTS: New discoveries in beauty and wellness. Awards also were presented in five product-specific categories (Bath & Body, Beauty Accessory, Cosmetic & Fragrance, Natural/Organic and Packaging), with winners and finalists selected by a panel of trade editors. Criteria included innovative design, creative use of materials/construction and use of new materials/technology.

The winners and finalists are:

BEST OF SHOW:

Danielle and Company (Clarks Summit, PA) for its Organic Soap Garden, an all-in-one sustainable gift that comes complete with organic soil and a biodegradable planter and saucer, made from grain and rice by-products and filled with luxurious organic soaps and body washes.

BATH & BODY CATEGORY:

Winner: Honeycat Cosmetics (New York, NY) for its Chick of the Sea/Foaming Crystals, presented in recyclable sardine can. The skin-softening bath crystals, available in chocolate and mint flavors, provide foam for the duration of one’s bath.

Finalist: Do Not Disturb, Inc. (Alpharetta, GA) for its foaming bath salts.

Finalist: Tact Beauty Caretm (New York, NY) for Discover the World Brazil, a cocoa body scrub.

BEAUTY ACCESSORY CATEGORY:

Winner: Tassi by Whats Hot! Inc. (Woodbury, NY), a patented product that makes it easy and fun to keep hair away from the face while washing, showering, bathing and applying make-up. The terry cloth headband, designed with a wider back to hold without flattening hair, is available in 12 colors.

Finalist: Oka B (Buford, GA) for its Caroline shoe, made with proprietary Microplast technology.

Finalist: Honeycat Cosmetics (New York, NY) for its Oops! Pack.

COSMETIC & FRAGRANCE CATEGORY:

Winner: Joya by A Candle in the Wind (New York, NY) for its Perfume in Porcelain, a scented candle and fragrance diffuser collection in porcelain vessels with illustrated motifs. The fragrance blends are mysterious and exquisite, while the porcelain pieces are non-porous, stable conductors of heat.

Finalist: Mommy Makeup (New York, NY) for its Any Wear Creme.

Finalist: THE BALM (San Francisco, CA) for its Two-Timer Mascara.

NATURAL/ORGANIC CATEGORY:

Winner: European Soaps, Ltd. (Seattle, WA) for its Bite Be Gone, a dual action product with mosquito repellant cream to prevent bites and an after bite balm to relieve itching.

Finalist: Sonoma Lavender (Santa Rosa, CA) for its lavender heated spa collection in recycled cotton.

Finalist: The Kala Corporation (Cranston, RI) for its “Mama Coco” lip balms.

PACKAGING CATEGORY:

Winner: THE BALM (San Francisco, CA) for its Read My Lips Lipstick, featuring a creamy formula packed with vitamin A, E, olive oil and jojoba. The lipsticks – named after newspaper sections – are discreetly packaged in newspaper print tubes, and are 100% recyclable.

Finalist: Nature’s Essence (South San Francisco, CA) for its Bamboo Collection, packaged in a reusable gift box.

Finalist: Sohum Cosmetics (Melbourne, Australia) for its Parade Perfumed Candle.

“As EX*TRACTS evolves it continues to showcase creativity and innovation in personal care products,” said Melissa Engongoro, manager of EX*TRACTS. “The winners and finalists represent the best of the best in personal care.”

Judges were: Nanci McArdle, American Spa Managing Editor; Jamie Matusow, Beauty Packaging Editor; Victoria Wurdinger, Beauty Store Business Contributing Editor Dannielle Kyrillos, Daily Candy, editor at large; Meredith Schwartz, Gifts & Decorative Accessories, Business Editor; John Saxtan, Giftware News Editor; and Nancy Jeffries, Global Cosmetic Industry NY Correspondent.

EX*TRACTS: New discoveries in beauty and wellness features more than 100 exhibitors of cosmetics, perfumes, skincare, bath & body care, beauty accessories, haircare, natural and organic products and well-being lines and attracts 5,000 spa, salon and specialty retailers. EX*TRACTS runs through Wednesday, February 6, New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
