Gallatin’s Tinsel and Treasures promotes shopping locallyBy Paige Brown StrongTennessean.com

Gallatin, TN – It’s the perfect way to kick off the holiday season and get started on your Christmas shopping – the annual Tinsel and Treasures Holiday Open House. A tradition begun decades ago by Perkins Drugs & Gift Shoppe, it’s a holiday staple for many Gallatin residents, and one that continues to gain momentum as more people learn about this fabulous weekend.

Businesses around Gallatin will open their doors this Saturday and Sunday for this very special event. Shoppers will enjoy refreshments, music and holiday décor as they shop for the perfect gifts. An added bonus is that many merchants will offer discounts available only during the open house.

For the second year, Tinsel & Treasures is organized by volunteers Rachel Mullins of The Red Tulip and Paula Martin of Perfect Pay. These ladies, one of whom is not even associated with a retail business, choose to commit their time to this because they realize its importance. This annual holiday open house in Gallatin has become an annual pilgrimage of sorts, to which merchants and shoppers are committed.

Shoppers this weekend will also have the chance to enjoy holiday music on Gallatin’s historic downtown square. Area school choirs will be performing on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.
