Get ready to shop in WatertownBy Deborah HighlandTennessean.com

Watertown merchants are gearing up for the 21st annual fall mile-long yard sale that begins at daybreak on Oct. 3.

“It’s a good opportunity to showcase Watertown and all the new shops that have opened in the last six months, two jewelry shops, Watertown Pharmacy and Gift Shop, The Kake Haus, Nona Lisa Pizzeria and soon to be open by yard sale, Deadman’s General Store,” event organizer and Watertown business owner Jim Amero said.

“It is a heck of a shopping experience to have all these shops right here for you,” Amero said.

Local merchants plan their inventories around the spring and fall mile-long yard sales, he said.

“We do gear up our buying toward that. Right now I have six little red wagons that people like to buy to walk around town with. We all gear our buying up to the Watertown yard sale,” Amero said.

The event brings anywhere from 10,000 to 20,000 people into town for the day, depending on the weather. The sale is held rain or shine.

Amero already anticipates at least 200 vendors selling everything from antiques and jewelry to socks and handmade crafts.

The official starting point for the sale is along Main Street in Watertown near the elementary school. The sale winds through the downtown square and side streets. Once you get into town, you can park anywhere you find a spot on the street. Some church lots will be open for paid parking to raise money for their various programs.
