Holiday Hiring Blitz Begins
With unemployment at an all time high, the holidays may bring some good news. Many retailers say they still plan to hire for the holiday season.
Christmas is two months away, but this time of year is when retailers like JC Penney start gearing up for the holidays. “We got to get out in front of the game. Our first week kicks off first week in November,” said JC Penney Store Manager Rob Sorum.
That means hiring and training begins now. “We’re talking about cashiers, people at the customer service center, recovery, fitting room help,” said Sorum.
Sorum says his store alone will fill over 90 jobs. That’s on par with last year. He says it’s all about customer service at a time when stores are looking to boost sales. “Speedy checkout. Everyone wants to get in and get out and be taken care of,” he said.
“I came here month and half ago, applied at the kiosk and got a call back in three days,” said Erin Dessorneau.
