Holiday sales good at Kingsburg shops
Now that the tinsel has finally settled, downtown Kingsburg merchants can evaluate their holiday sales. It was a very Merry Christmas, indeed, for Janice Borba, owner of Bling Queen Boutique. “Let’s just say sales were over the top,” Borba says. “It was a very successful Christmas for the entire month of December. With only being open three months, we are just amazed at sales. I have no complaints.” Borba says many of her customers were men looking for gifts for girlfriends, daughters and wives. Borba thinks the convenience of having the staff provide gift suggestions and offering free gift-wrapping translated into profits. Shoppers also opted for gift cards which were placed in pretty shopping bags with ribbon, tissue and gift tag.
Gift certificates were big sellers at Mac Attyre Boutique on Draper Street. Owner Lindsey McIntyre sold more gifts certificates this year than in 2009. However, overall sales weren’t as good as last year, she said.
“Everyone seemed in more of a rush,” she says. “Advertising brought people in. I’m also on Facebook. That helps.”
Miss Me brand jeans with rhinestones were big sellers.
“We were really busy the second week of December,” she says. “Holidays get a little stressful because I want to fill the store. I love helping people find gifts.”
