L.A. Mart Reaches Out to Help Those In Need

In an industry built on being mindful of others and creating warm environments, it’s only natural that the L.A. Mart® actively works with and promotes non-profits throughout the year. Four charity events currently, or soon to be, sponsored by the L.A. Mart are designed to provide meaningful avenues to members of the gift and home industry to help both children and adults in need.

Gift For Life
Cinda Baxter, renowned retail expert and founder of the 3/50 Project, will be presenting “The 3/50 Project: Building Business From the Ground Up” on Thursday, January 24, at 4 p.m. at the L.A. Mart. A cocktail party will follow the presentation. Admission will be $10 and 100 percent of the proceeds are to be donated to Gift For Life, the industry’s only national charity organization that fundraises for Design Industry Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA.)

Department of Family & Child Services of Los Angeles
Gift and home showrooms are donating toys for an L.A. Mart Holiday Toy & Gift Drive. All of these donations will be given to the Department of Family & Child Services of Los Angeles for the children it serves. Among many other good works, DCFS serves disenfranchised children who are taken out of troubling home situations and placed into foster care for temporary or permanent placing.

Project Angel Food
Divine Design is one of the largest charity events on the West Coast where devoted shoppers buy donated items from major companies and 100 percent of the proceeds is donated to Project Angel Food, the only organization in Los Angeles that offers the free service of preparing and delivering up to 13,000 meals a week for women, men and children struggling with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses within Los Angeles County. Furniture, décor and gifts are donated by the L.A. Mart’s gift, home and furniture showrooms for the 7,500 attendees to enjoy over an extended weekend sale. L.A. Mart provides space for the organization to store and organize product throughout the year while the general manager, leasing team and several showroom owners volunteered time to physically prepare the shopping event.

Human Rights Campaign & C4 Belts
An Atlanta-based socially-conscious business that produces 100 percent recyclable and vegan-friendly belts will be donating a percentage of proceeds from orders placed at the January L.A. Gift & Home Market to the Human Rights Campaign, one of four causes to which the company gives back with every purchase.

“In part, our industry makes a living from creating events and activities which is why partnering with philanthropic organizations to help those in need is so important. Our profession facilitates commerce and in many cases has created companies with great wealth and advantages which I believe put us in a great position to assist helping the less fortunate.” says Frank Joens, senior vice president, general manager at the L.A. Mart. “It’s important for us to recognize that real hardship exist both in our backyard and around the country and we’re honored to be able to facilitate meaningful partnerships with these altruistic charities.”
