Las Vegas Market’s first look spotlights directional trends

Las Vegas Market announced that its eagerly-anticipated FIRST LOOK trend presentation and curated display will showcase four central themes – Modern Traditions; Casual/Outdoor: Water Signs; Bedroom: iGgen; and Handmade – at the Summer 2017 Las Vegas Market, July 30-August 3, 2017. All Las Vegas Market exhibitors are invited to submit related products – from furniture to home décor to gift and more – by May 25 for consideration in the FIRST LOOK display, presentation and at-Market publication.

“Las Vegas Market is the industry’s foremost resource for directional trends,” said Dorothy Belshaw, president of Gift Leasing & chief marketing officer, International Market Centers. “Our always-inspiring FIRST LOOK program – now in its 13th iteration – not only forecasts macro trends, but also showcases practical applications each concept. Our comprehensive curation of each season’s most on-trend products gives retailers and designers one more compelling reason to attend the leading furniture, home decor and gift destination in the western United States.”
The four key trends identified for the Summer 2017 FIRST LOOK are:

  • Modern Traditions Family, dining, holiday and seasonal products come to the fore in this trend, which spotlights modern and transitional dining furniture; tabletop; holiday décor and decorations, including wrapping paper; ornaments; and more. Holiday merchandise runs the gamut, encompassing Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year’s Eve.
  • Casual/Outdoor: Water Signs FIRST LOOK heads to the beach – and pool – for a casual lounge vignette that showcases watery blues and bright whites. Merchandise selections incorporate outdoor furniture, including modern lounge seating and fire pits; beach towels; portable umbrellas; all-weather dinnerware; beachwear; totes; sunglasses, and more.
  • Bedroom: iGen Marketers’ focus is shifting from Millennials’ wants and needs to Generation Z’s wishes and hopes, and FIRST LOOK keeps pace with a space for today’s true digital natives. We’re connecting with the iGeneration – an entrepreneurial, responsible, compassionate, competitive and curious set – in our first-ever ‘tween bedroom vignette. The product assortment for iGen includes: unisex bedroom furniture, especially designs with tech management and savvy storage solutions; bedding; area rugs; lighting; wall decor; poufs; personal accessories; plush, and toys.
  • Handmade Craftsmanship and artistry headline FIRST LOOK’s fourth trend vignette with products all showcasing the creativity and handiwork of craftspeople. Virtually all product categories are suitable, with a special emphasis on merchandise produced by global artisans.

FIRST LOOK curator and 20-year magazine editor Julie Smith Vincenti will assemble a selection of beautifully styled product vignettes in an elegant showcase display located in the Grand Plaza, highlighting new merchandise from furniture, home and gift categories. FIRST LOOK product submissions also will be featured in an image-rich publication focusing on these singular trend stories and packed with additional, enlightening information, to be distributed at all Market registration areas. In addition, Smith Vincenti will host a free FIRST LOOK seminar, on Monday, July 31, 10am to 11am, dissecting the latest trend forecasts and serving up insights from industry thought leaders and trendsetters.

In addition to the proprietary FIRST LOOK trend forecast, the Summer Las Vegas Market will offer visitors an information-rich selection of additional trend-focused and business-building seminars, tours and talks addressing what’s new – and next – in color, design and consumer preferences including the lively Ahead of the Curve seminar and tours.  The Market’s popular “View on Vegas” Instagram take-over also will spotlight top product picks from leading taste makers and style setters.  Complete details are available online at www.lasvegasmarket.com/seminars-and-events/.
