Local shopping campaign startingBy Rick LongleyWillows-Journal.com

The Willows Chamber of Commerce and Greater Willows Improvement League are collaborating on a new campaign to promote local shopping.

They are kicking off the effort Thursday with an early morning meeting at the Sugar Shop on Wood Street starting at 7:30.

Input from business owners and service providers will be sought on the 3/50 project to encourage Willows residents to shop near home as much as possible.

Its purpose is to have consumers pick three stores or businesses in town and spend a total of $50 a month supporting them, according to Pat Ireland of the Willows Chamber.

Thursday’s meeting will focus on business people’s advertising ideas to get the word out, Chamber Director Rose Marie Thrailkill said Monday.

“All businesses are part of a vital economic community,” Thrailkill said. “The chamber and the city take the attitude everybody has a place – it is not only retail but service businesses too.”
