Many wait till last minute to buy Mother’s Day gift
Corpus Christi — My mama told me, “You better shop around.”
And with Mother’s Day rounding the bend, now is the time to put the lovely lady’s advice to good use. Hop to it, shoppers.
Precious hours remain before the official celebration begins for the maternal figure who fills that wisdom-sharing role in your life.
Local florist Elaine Franco expects to hear a steady pitter-patter of eager feet throughout most of Mother’s Day weekend.
Franco, owner of Flowers for Today on Weber Road, spent the past several weeks gearing up for the shop’s second biggest holiday of the year, second only to Valentine’s Day.
Early birds began placing orders for flowers for Mom about a month ago, Franco said.
If last year is any indication, Sunday could prove a long day for area florists.
On Mother’s Day 2007, last-minute stragglers hustled into Franco’s shop until closing time that Sunday evening, she said.
The National Retail Federation projected that consumers will spend $2 billion on bouquets for Mom.
