Garden, gift shop has classic charm
The first impression starts outside the front doors of Mrs. McGregor’s Garden, as colorful spring flowers give shoppers a hint of what’s to come inside the store with a vintage-inspired charm.
“We like to wow you starting at the door,” Paulette Pennison, owner of Mrs. McGregor’s Garden, said. “A true passion for details is evident in the intricate vignettes throughout the store. Every wall, shelf, nook and corner is filled with lovely, intriguing finds from around the world.”
Pennison said the store, a true one-stop shopping experience, offers furniture, great decorative accessories, gifts, garden objects, clothing and designer jewelry. Clothing lines include Nic and Zoe, Willow, Two Star Dog and Babette.
In addition, Mrs. McGregor’s Garden, which derives its name from “The Tale of Peter Rabbit,” offers interior design services and custom floral arrangements.
“Our goal in designing your home is to make it a big part of you,” she said.
Pennison said shoppers should allow plenty of time for perusing as the store features pottery, stationery, pillows, European soaps, lamps and many more unique items.
“We like to say anyone can shop with us for a gift,” Pennison said.
Prices range from $5 to $2,500, with many items less than $50.
Pennison said selecting items for the store comes naturally. She chooses things she likes, hoping customers will too.
“Overall, each item is a part of the whole concept,” she said.
In retail for more than 20 years, Pennison opened Mrs. McGregor’s Garden in 2000 on East Kings Highway across from Centenary College before moving to Line Avenue.
