New outlets for Mike’s Nut Shop salesBy Greg GrossYDR.InYork.com

York, PA — Paul and Paula Stoeckle, owners of York-based Mike’s Nut Shop, used the relatively little known holiday of National Nut Day to officially launch the company’s new logo and packaging.

It was unveiled at the Rutter’s Farm Store along Route 24 in York Township on Wednesday.

“We’re coming out of our shell with our new look,” Paul Stoeckle said.

Compared to the old paper bag-like package, the new resealable plastic bag is a much-needed improvement said Marc Laucks, the owner of Marc Laucks and Co., designers of the new logo and packaging.

Paula Stoeckle said she is banking that the new design will help the product stand out against the competition.

“This new look will attract a lot more attention,” she said.

Free bags of Mike’s nuts were handed out during the unveiling. And as Bev Koller, a personnel supervisor with Rutter’s, was conducting interviews with potential employees at the latest Rutter’s location, she couldn’t help but make note of the new logo and package.

Being that it’s resealable, the bag is perfect for munching on “a good snack” while on the go, Koller said.

After an explosion of undetermined cause destroyed the company’s previous location on West College Avenue in York more than a year ago, the Stoeckles took it as a chance to reshape the 107-year-old business.

Retail sales were slumping, the Web site was just breaking even, and gift baskets were more a hassle.
