New owners, expanded gift shopBy Mitchell Trinka

For many years, the Millbrook Card and Gift Shop has proved to be in integral part of business at its location, just feet away from the Millbrook Post Office. With high traffic outside the doors you’d expect any owner to hold onto the business.

But that isn’t what happened.

Instead, the business was sold to and re-opened on Aug. 1 by 25-year Town of Washington residents Diane and Rich Moretti.

This isn’t their first business though. They are also large players in the local bonsai market through their wholesale bonsai supply business they have operated for 12 years.

Rich said, while this is their first company with a plethora of merchandise, they aren’t daunted by the business. Instead they are keyed up to be open. Rich noted that their excellent location and loyal business patron base was a big part of the choice to buy and re-open the shop.

“I feel there’s a lot of potential here,” said Rich.

In many ways, the two hope to begin emulating a store much like the former Corner News, a card and gift shop which used to occupy the site of Piccolo’s Restaurant.
