New Kind of Cash Mob Coming to TownBy Kristen SwingHeraldandTribune.com

Jonesborough, TN – A successful marketing venture that encouraged people to shop locally in downtown Jonesborough last year is returning to Tennessee’s oldest town ­­— sort of.

Last year, town leaders created a weekly cash mob series in which area residents and guests were encouraged to come to a specific store on a certain Saturday and spend $20 to be eligible for prize giveaways.

The shop local campaign saw some serious success each week, helping merchants make it through when construction on Main Street was causing economic woes for many of them.

Now, on select Thursdays beginning May 16, a similar campaign is making its way to Tennessee’s oldest town.
