New pottery store offers creativity for customersBy WausauDailyHerald.com

A new local ceramic store “is not your mother’s ceramic shop,” a customer said.

Owner Misty Christensen held a dry run last weekend with friends and relatives, preparing for the Saturday opening of Under the Sun Pottery Fun, Wisconsin Rapids’ Paint Your Own Pottery Studio, 6310 South Park Road, Wisconsin Rapids.

One of the guests, Renaissance Learning co-worker Mary Ann Koehler, envisioned wide-mouthed, green ceramic frogs, holding scrub pads.

“When I was young, with my kids, I never wanted to do ceramics,” Mary Ann said. “I really was dragging my feet. (I thought) I’ll humor her.

“When I got there, I didn’t want to leave.”

The store — open during Misty’s off-hours from her job at Renaissance Learning — provides a plethora of ceramics for guests to embellish.

“I’ve always been ‘artsy,’ and I’m trying to find an outlet for that,'” said Misty, 34.

“I grew up playing on the floor of Ceramics by Cameron. (Barb Cameron-Delpho) was my godmother, and my dad did all the pouring.”

Barb passed away this summer.
