A colorful Rochester retailer is laughing all the way into downtown with a “lucky” spin-off gift shop.

Julie and Jeff Green, who opened the Shades of Green gift shop on Second Street Southwest nine years ago, are launching a new project in the subway of the Kahler Grand Hotel.

Before anything, you need to know that the Greens really like the number 9.

“Nines are considered good luck in China,” says Julie Green. “And we were married on 9/9/89 and we’ve run Shades of Green for nine years. Nine is a lucky number for us.”

So when choosing a name for their downtown shop, the Greens decided to go with something lucky as well as happy.

“We’re going to call it 99 Giggles,” she says.
