Belmont, NC – Another unique business has popped up in downtown Belmont.

Tastebuds Popcorn opened Nov. 29 at 208 N. Main St. and is already getting lots of traffic from kernel crazies, Christmas-gift shoppers and customers who are just plain curious about a whole shop of popcorn.

Owner Jay Pithwa, who grew up just outside of London, moved to Belmont when his wife, Dr. Sapna Pithwa, took a job as a family physician in Cherryville.

“We looked at houses all over, from South Carolina to Charlotte to South Charlotte,” he says. “But Belmont reminded me of a quaint town in England. We built a house here and wanted to establish our business here. We’ve hired about 10 people who all live around the area, so that’s been good for people who’ve been out of work.”
