NY NOW Handmade Collection Accepts 56 New Artisans

An infusion of new artisans have been accepted into the juried NY NOW HANDMADE Collection for the winter 2014 edition of NY NOW™, the Market for Home + Lifestyle (formerly NYIGF®). Some 56 new exhibitors – in NY NOW’s both the Designer Maker and Global Designsections – will make their NY NOW debut, February 1-5, 2014, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

Additional craft-related winter market highlights include a special display and in-booth identification of American-made craft resources, a six-part seminar series hosted by CRAFT (Craft Retailers & Artisans For Tomorrow), and the return of Artisan Resource™, a concurrent tradeshow market for volume import, global handmade resources.

“HANDMADE is known both for its extensive selection of artisanal handcrafted resources across the spectrum of home and lifestyle categories, and for its representation of products in all media,” said Michelle Karol, HANDMADE sales manager. “The independent HANDMADE jury has ensured that buyers will find a compelling mix of new tabletop, ceramics, textiles, home décor, jewelry and apparel resources.”

Located in Javits Center North, HANDMADE Designer Maker will showcase 350 limited-production makers across all categories and media from 33 states and seven countries. International artisans from Australia, Canada and Israel, as well as pavilions from Germany and the United Kingdom will showcase some 30 designer-makers at the winter market. In addition, a showcase space for “Emerging Makers” will spotlight new designers in business for a year or less, as well as artisans who are entering the wholesale marketplace for the first time.

Newly-accepted HANDMADE Designer Maker exhibitors will showcase a mix of jewelry, home textiles, clothing, wood products, stationery, glass and ceramics. Complete details about their six sessions and registration is available online at www.nynow.com/programs.

NY NOW’s “Made in the USA” program once again will facilitate identification of American-made crafts, with qualifying exhibitors in HANDMADE Designer Maker, and throughout NY NOW, displaying custom “Made in the USA” in-booth logos. Additionally, designer Paul Thompson will curate a “Made in USA” display in the Javits Connector to showcase products – both handmade and commercially-produced – in the United States. Some 200 products will be included from 450+ NY NOW exhibitors who identify themselves as having American-made products.

Running concurrently with NY NOW, the fourth semi-annual edition of Artisan Resource, will offer U.S.-based volume import retailers and wholesalers the opportunity to meet with international artisanal producers. In connection with Artisan Resource, “Importing 101” educational sessions offered daily at the Passenger Ship Terminal’s Pier 94, will provide retailers with the basics of volume importing handmade goods from overseas vendors. Seminar topics will include logistics of the process, the required vocabulary and the roles and responsibilities of both exporter and importer, and the risks and opportunities. Artisan Resource runs February 1-4, 2014, at Pier 94. Information and registration is available online atwww.artisanresourceny.com.

The winter 2014 edition of NY NOW, the Market for Home + Lifestyle, will run Saturday, February 1, through Thursday, February 6, 2014, at New York City’s Jacob K.
