Pittsford, NY – American humorist Mark Twain once admonished his readers not to “go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing,” he reminded them. “It was here first!”

Putting the “owing” question aside, a Pittsford nonprofit gift shop is helping people in developing countries make a living by buying handcrafts from fair trade vendors and selling them to Rochester area residents. Artisans all over the globe have their jewelry, scarves, purses, decorative accessories, and a myriad of other items on display at One World Goods in the Pittsford Plaza.

Raquel Marchenese, manager of the store, says, “Through these sales, we help create jobs with dignity for our global neighbors so they may provide, food, shelter, health care, and education for their families.”
