O’Sweet Pea Improves Historic Location, Expands Offerings
PALESTINE — O’Sweet Pea is a children’s boutique and general gift store located in the historic Main Street District of downtown Palestine known for its baby registry and unique gift items.
But one of the things that makes this O’Sweet Pea so special is the history that surrounds the building it occupies. The building, which originally housed the old Bratton Drug Co. store, was built in 1901.
Last year, the Palestine Economic Development Corp. provided a facade improvement program grant to O’Sweet Pea which helped restore the facade of the building back to its original grandeur.
“Love cannot describe my love for this building. This building once housed one of the most opulent drug stores, restaurant and soda fountain in the area,” O’Sweet Pea owner Heather Calhoun said. “People from miles around would come to Bratton’s for a coke, hamburger, or to pick up their prescription and do a little shopping.
