Palm Harbor Gift Boutique Benefits Local Nonprofit Agency
Palm Harbor – Whatever you do don’t call the gift shop in the former Senior Center building in downtown Palm Harbor a thrift store.
That’s because visitors to the Shoppe Around the Corner are surprised by the large number of stylish gifts and home decor items that decorate the store on Omaha Circle, south of Florida Avenue.
If they know the shop is operated by Neighborly Care Network they are surprised that it is nothing like the thrift store they imagined. There is definitely no consignment or used items anywhere to be found.
Kathryn Stacy, a Palm Harbor resident, said she visits Shoppe Around the Corner because it is “beautifully decorated” with unique items that remind her of Colonial-style gift shops back in Tennessee, where she once lived.
Deborah Landis, the shop manager, said the first thing she hears from people entering the shop is a gasp when they see all the lavish gifts and the store’s themed holiday corner.
“They are amazed at all the trendy, elegant home decor items: candelabras, crystal treasures, bath accessories, decorations, jewelry and exquisite gifts that line tables, showcases, shelves and cabinets in the shop,” she said.
Landis acquired all the items at gift shows in Atlanta and New York.
Proceeds from the shop benefit the programs of Neighborly Care Network, such as Meals on Wheels and Neighborly Pharmacy, she said.
Each year fundraising becomes more challenging. Now, more than ever, nonprofit organizations must be innovative and think outside the box to find new ways to fund their programs, according to Landis. Shoppe Around the Corner puts that plan into action and helps fund important programs for senior citizens, she said.
