Publisher says creativity will keep you in business
Hanover, MA — Patricia Norins traces her interests in publishing and the retail industry back to her parents. Today, Norins is a Hanover-based publisher of magazines covering the kiosk and gift shop industries. Years ago, she was just a kid following her parents, who published a magazine on the shopping center business, on scouting trips to malls and stores. Afterwards, Norins’ parents would discuss the retail innovations they had seen as a family.
Norins eventually struck out on her own. She launched Pinnacle Publishing Group, and began publishing Specialty Retail Report, a quarterly magazine on the cart and kiosk industry in 1997. Over the years, her company has added new titles, Gift Shop and Green Retailer magazines, which cover the gift shop and environmentally-conscious retail industries, respectively. In addition to her publishing ventures, Norins’ 13-person company organizes SPREE, an annual trade show for cart retailers that takes place in Las Vegas.
As both the publishing and retail industries struggle to adjust to the primacy of the Internet and the recession, Norins hopes her company’s small size will help it adapt to changing times.
