Retail makes a comeback
The shopping masses, as is traditionally the case, started to descend on stores on Black Friday.
The push remained fairly constant through the holiday season locally and nationally. Now it’s time to take stock of what happened.
Generally, the economic news is pretty good – with a dose of concern moving forward.
Holiday shoppers spent more in 2009, according to figures from MasterCard Advisors’ SpendingPulse, a reliable source of information that tracks these figures.
Retail sales increased 3.6 percent Nov. 1 through Dec. 24, compared with a 3.2 percent drop in the same period in 2008. There was, however, one extra shopping day between Thanksgiving and Christmas in 2009.
