Retailer finds her cup of tea
Betsy Young has found her cup of tea. She’s sharing it with the birds – and consumers of artful, quirky and rediscovered antiquities for home and gift giving.
The sign outside the newly remodeled, mixed-use building at 535 South St., across from the delightfully flowering Sherman Square being tended to by the Rotary Club, reads: “Soho Arts Co., Artful Living and Giving, Home, Gifts, Antiques and rare finds.”
Young recently launched Soho in a discerningly designed building reconstructed by owner Carlos Barbosa to fit the mold of the town’s Smart Growth concept of mixing retail and living. The building has one retail space, occupied by Soho, and two apartments up, one of which was rented last week, Young said.
Young, from Barnstable Village, was employed by Excel Switching Co. in Hyannis for quite a few years before leaving to pursue other avenues. “I worked in sales, marketing and varied business operations for Excel and traveled frequently overseas,” where in her spare time she pursued her hobby: Shopping.
