Retailers preparing for Christmas
Destin — With Halloween over, retailers are gearing up for their busiest time of the year with the fast approaching holiday season.
With the national economy just beginning a slow recovery, many retailers are hoping for a strong Christmas season to push them into the black.
“Everyone is feeling very positive about this year,” said Traci Stokes, marketing director for Silver Sands Factory Stores in Miramar Beach. “I feel like going into the holiday season, the stores feel more positive this year than they did this time last year. We’ve had a good year to date.
“Overall, I think in this area, consumer confidence remains more positive than in most areas and stores are actually looking forward to a good Christmas season,” Stokes added.
She said many retailers at Silver Sands were expecting business to slow down this year and reduced their staffs and merchandise orders accordingly. However, business was stronger than expected the stores ramped up their hiring and orders.
Many stores already have started searching for seasonal employees.
Silver Sands has brought back its Shop for a Job promotion. Shop for a Job is similar to a job fair in that applicants can go to the outlet mall’s services kiosk near the Michael Kors store and fill out one profile sheet that can be taken to as many stores as they want rather than filling out multiple job applications.
