‘Something For Everyone’ At Dove Tail Arts
GALESBURG —Bernice “Bernie” Hamilton may not be an artist, but she knows art. Hamilton’s store, Dove Tail Arts, 61 S. Seminary St., celebrated its fifth anniversary this past Thursday.
Walking into the store is akin to being immersed into another realm, one consisting of all kinds of art produced by Galesburg area artists and people from all over the U.S. and Canada.
It’s a family affair
It’s not surprising Hamilton’s dream was to open a store featuring everything from pottery, jewelry and paintings to metal sculptures, lamps, handbags, garden art and more.
Hamilton’s husband Clay is into woodworking. The electronic technician at BNSF Railway builds the displays. More about that later.
“Our son (Logan) is an art teacher at Geneseo High School and he has some pottery here,” Bernie Hamilton said. “Our daughter (Abbie) is a journalist, working in Chicago.”
Hamilton said her son studied under well-known artist and GHS art teacher Chris Dokolasa. Dokolasa also has pottery for sale at Dove Tail Arts.
“When my son was in school, he was always involved in pottery,” Hamilton said. “My daughter loves photography and film. … I’m just the buyer and the display person.”
