Shoppers glimpse nirvana at Unique Boutique
Hampshire, IL — Shoppers in town have a new place to where they can find a gift for themselves or someone else: Unique Boutique.
Until owner Tammy Wheeler opened Unique Boutique in September, Hampshire’s biggest retailers offered more function than frills. Not Unique Boutique. The boutique — located in her existing business Capelli Salon at 830 Centennial Drive — offers one-of-a-kind vintage jewelry, gemstone-studded belts, beaded baubles, an array of appealingly merchandised handbags, trend-setting women’s accessories, and even a few home décor items.
“That’s all I’ve been hearing: ‘What a good idea!'” Wheeler said. “There are no other places to shop at or pick up a quick gift.”
Unique Boutique is within walking distance for many of Hampshire’s residents.
“I’m just excited to have a little boutique in town to buy something fun,” said Liz Magnussen, a 14-year resident of Hampshire. “Ace Hardware has a very nice gift collection, but this is more ‘fun’ shopping.”
Magnussen, the mayor’s wife, is conscientious about where she spends her money. “I truly love to shop and keep my business in Hampshire,” she said. “It’s nice to have an option where we can keep our retail contribution local.”
On a recent sun-dappled morning, a shopper could indulge in designer-replica handbags featuring buckles, braids and metallic sheens, an array of special-occasion purses, a selection of rhinestone-studded vintage jewelry, and even a few select pieces of clothing, including some Ed Hardy-inspired T-shirts with skulls and rhinestones for trend-seekers.
Wheeler plans to add new treasures often.
