Hubbard — Should a wine shop be allowed on a residential road?

That was the topic of a public hearing Thursday evening by the Hubbard Township Zoning Commission. Residents had the opportunity to discuss the possibility of a zoning change in their neighborhood that would allow the carry-out wine and gift shop to begin operation.

Rocco and Anna Maria Barletta, owners of Barletta Landscaping Inc. and Barletta Twin Pines Nursery on Pothour-Wheeler Road, petitioned the zoning commission earlier in the year because they want to open the shop on their property.

“Our intentions with this are not bad,” Anna Maria Barletta said. “We want to make a gift shop and sell baskets with wine and cheese and things like that.”

For that to happen, the property, which is currently zoned as agricultural, must be changed to B-3, or business.
