President’s Cookbook Gift Shop has something for everyoneBy Lydia GehringThe-Daily-Record.com

Wooster — The Wooster Community Hospital Gift Shop isn’t just for patrons of the facility.

Open to the public, the business is a place that flourishes with unique items that are just right for special occasions or everyday life.

“Everyday is a special day at the hospital with beautiful new items arriving, like a new line of candles that have some wonderful scents like buttered maple syrup, banana nut bread and fresh linen, to mention a few,” said Gift Shop Manager Nettie Miller. “One of our specialties is the incorporation of local artisans in our gift shop. (Local potter) Jim Spires has a number of handmade pottery pieces and (local artist) Marjorie McGirr brings in beautiful hand-painted porcelain.”

Another service offered to the community by the Gift Shop is custom-made floral designs, Miller said. Made as “unique as the individual themselves,” the pieces usually take about a week to create when ordered.

The Gift Shop is run by WCH’s Auxiliary, a group which functions to support the hospital in its quest to provide the best service possible to its patients and visitors. Organized in 1951, the Auxiliary is always looking for dedicated volunteers to add to its service to the facility.

Raised in Mount Eaton, Miller has lived in Ohio all her life. Besides her dedication to the Gift Shop, she said she is also passionate about interior design.

“I love to help make a space more beautiful and functional,” she said. “I also very much enjoy floral designing. One of my greatest privileges designing florals has been to create unique and personal designs for memorials.”

When it comes to Miller’s favorite foods, she said she especially enjoys corn-on-the-cob, chicken “that has been marinated and then grilled,” and “oh yes, turtle cake is wonderful with its rich layer of caramel.”
