Sweetness always for sale here
I ran into Peter Cottontail the other day. He’s about 36 inches tall, weighs 22 pounds and is made of dreamy chocolate. He’s also being raffled off at Kilwin’s over in Ballantyne Village.
What is Kilwin’s? It’s a chocolate and ice cream shop owned and operated by George Click. It is also, according to Click, “the only full-line confectioner in Charlotte.” Lucky for us Ballantyne residents. And, just what my thighs need!
Walking into Kilwin’s, you feel as if you’ve been transported to an old-fashioned chocolatier. Click calls the company and his store “a throwback to an older time.” From the glass cases chock-full of some of the most unbelievably delicious-looking treats, to the assembly station in the front window where you can watch the goodies being made, your mouth is watering the moment you enter.
I was visiting on caramel day, so the staff was busy preparing various items for a bath in sweet, gooey goodness. There were Rice Krispy treats lined up ready for dunking and an entire batch of green apples being cleaned up for the same purpose. Yummy!
Don’t you think every workplace should have a caramel day?
So what’s it like owning and working in a candy store? Click quickly answers, “It’s a sweet job!” (I wonder how long he’s been waiting to use that one.) He continues, “Seriously, though, working in a place like this doesn’t give you a whole lot to be upset about.”
