Sugar Shak Serves Succulent Sweets
Princeton — The Sugar Shak’s mother and son team of Carolyn Neal and Cole Thomas combines culinary training from Le Cordon Bleu with family recipes for sweet treats that have boomed in popularity.
“The week before Christmas, we had only been open since Nov. 1, and we had 380 orders,” Thomas said. “Then the Wednesday before Christmas, at 5 we had to cut off the orders because they were up to 2,706, and they weren’t just a pie. It was a 10-pound candy tray and three pies.”
Customers became so eager for the rich, homemade sweets during the Christmas season, they waited on the porch to get in, and The Sugar Shak prepared 206 Easter baskets for the latest holiday.
Thomas said the sweet part of the shop is his mother’s passion, and he hopes to do more food work when the business moves to a larger building on Mercer Street in Princeton’s historic downtown later this month.
