Get Lucky owners optimistic about moveBy Emma JamesHattiesburgAmerican.com

A change of scenery has been good for Get Lucky.

The Hattiesburg women’s clothing boutique recently opened the doors of a new location at the Market at Woodstone, a couple of miles from the store’s previous location in the Turtle Creek Village.

“The move’s really been great for us,” said Melinda Gholson, who co-owns the boutique with sister Rachel Murphy. “At the other location, people knew we were there and would make a special trip out just for us. Now that we are more visible, there’s a constant reminder that we’re here.”

The move has condensed the store size from 2,500-square-feet to between 1,800- and 1,900-square-feet, but Gholson said that the trade-off has been well worth it.

“It just forces us to be more organized and creative,” she said. “We just got back from a buying trip in New York and have a lot of great things to offer.”

Get Lucky, which opened a location in Hattiesburg two years ago, features women’s clothing sizes 0-14 from independent designers. Gholson said the recession has greatly impacted the results of her buying trips because she buys from designers who sell studio leftovers. Since the economy has impacted designer sales, items that have been more difficult to obtain have become more available.

“In that aspect, the recession has been very good for us,” Gholson said. “Designers have been desperate to sell, and we’ve had the opportunity to buy a lot more.”
