Sammy’s sets up Williamsville shop
Sammy’s Famous Gift Baskets has a new storefront.
Not only did the company open its first storefront in several years, it’s being done by members of the founding family, the Ceraulos.
Sammy’s has leased 4,000 square feet in Georgetown Plaza, Williamsville.
“It feels good to be back,” said Nicole Ceraulo, who is running the store with her parents, Sam and Judy Ceraulo.
Sammy’s history in Buffalo goes back more than six decades, beginning as a mom-and-pop grocery store on Virginia Street on the lower West Side. Later, the company had its strongest following during the many decades it operated on Hertel Avenue, where it was known as a mainstay of the Hertel Avenue/North Buffalo business district.
As the customer base shifted to the northern suburbs, Sammy’s moved to Sheridan Harlem Plaza in Amherst.
Once Tops Markets began its rapid growth and Rochester’s Wegmans Food Markets carved a niche in the early 1980s, Sammy’s decided to close its independent, speciality market operations and focus on handling orders for gift baskets.
