The Sideboard is staple in downtown UplandBy Sandra EmersonDailyBulletin.com

Upland – When customers walk into The Sideboard gift shop in downtown, they are immediately greeted with a calming scent of candles and hundreds of gifts of every variety.

“You can go in there and spend hours looking at everything,” said GiGi Delarco, a customer at The Sideboard for two years.

“When you walk into The Sideboard it’s got a good positive atmosphere and feeling to it. It’s always decorated nice and gives you a really homey feeling.”

The Sideboard sells a variety of merchandise, including tea pots, candles, greeting cards and flags.

Evey Stauffer, Judi Matlock and Claire Cushing became the owners of The Sideboard five years ago after working for many years at the shop.

“If we didn’t come forward and take it over and buy it, we were afraid it was going to close down,” Matlock said. “We did feel that it was more than a store for a lot of people. It is a special place. It’s a place where you go to find solace, rest, sometimes therapy in just talking.”
