Brandon builds on its arts and crafts reputationBy Bruce EdwardsRutlandHerald.com

Brandon, VT – Roseann Johnson didn’t have to think twice about opening an art galley in a town known as “the art and soul of Vermont.”

“We know Brandon is a destination for people who are looking for art and we’ve been in Vermont a long time, and we have lots of contacts and know lots of people who make beautiful things,” said Johnson of Park Street Gallery, across from the village green.

Located in the former Brown’s of Brandon gift shop, the gallery showcases the work of 50 Vermont artisans.

The shop features a variety of mediums: watercolor and oil paintings, pottery, jewelry, illustrations, photography, blown glass, wood products, weaving, furniture (custom orders accepted) and felted baby gifts, including hats and matching booties.

“One of our Brandon artisans raises the sheep and makes the felt from the wool and creates these beautiful baby gifts,” Johnson said.

The store also carries greeting cards and some antique and decorative home accessories on consignment, along with what Johnson calls whimsical items, such as 100-year-old painted doors and shutters.

An artist herself, Johnson’s Endless Summer crafted dry flower and herb arrangements were exhibited at Frog Hollow. She’s also worked in advertising and marketing.
