Double Duty Tableware from Teroforma

Darien, Connecticut — Connecticut-based design incubator Teroforma seeks out promising independent designers to collaborate on its modernist tableware, then “matchmakes” them with artisanal studios to craft the works by hand. At the upcoming New York International Gift Fair (August 15-19), Teroforma will premiere new accessories for entertaining, with a focus on pieces that work double- and triple-time. “In a world of scarce resources (and small apartments!) we have the right to ask more than ever of the products we buy,” notes co-owner Andrew Hellman. “As designers, it’s our responsibility to consider all the ways an object might function, not just when in use but also while it’s ostensibly off-duty.”

The comprehensive collection includes a crystal carafe whose stopper can hold ice or garnishes; sauce bowls with pouring spouts, a system of stackable hors d’oeuvreware with lids so they can travel from table to fridge, a serving bowl whose notched wooden lid doubles as a breadboard, a tea towel gift set (each towel woven for a specific use), and a stoneware carafe that works as thermos, shaker or chiller. Rounding out the introductions are handturned salt/pepper grinders, crystal barware, additions to the linens and felt color palette, and the launch of Teroforma’s Artists’ Canvas Collection, encompassing decorative art work, trays, coasters, runners and paper products.

Teroforma collaborated with eleven far-flung designers and makers in eight countries to realize the new pieces. Yet the shapes are consistent with the existing collection, and the color palette is likewise maintained.

On display at the booth belonging to Aesthetic Movement, number 3956, in the Accent on Design division of the New York International Gift Fair, August 15 – 19. Available nationwide through design stores and specialty retailers beginning late fall.
