Guesthouse is a new home furnishings shop you’ll want to visit oftenBy Kathy SchultzNWSource.com

Need some fresh design ideas to transition your home to spring? Stop by Guesthouse, a new home furnishings and gift shop in Madrona. Owners Kate Sehulster and David Link opened just weeks before Christmas and there has been a steady stream of shoppers in search of something new since. The combination of enticing window displays, vintage finds, carefully selected gifts and textiles, and Sehulster’s enthusiasm to share her knowledge are quickly making it a go-to spot for great gifts and home décor.

The shop is divided into two distinct spaces by the dramatic, nearly 11-foot high French doors. In the back, luscious watermelon-colored walls light up the design space, filled with fabric samples and wall coverings for custom designs. The front is painted a shade of linen and deep-sea navy, and shelves of industrial wire and reclaimed wood showcase must-have home accents. Everything is influenced by Sehulster’s love of layering styles, including vintage pieces, natural and nature-inspired accents, lively textiles, French-infused décor and mid-century modern design.

It’s the kind of shop with ever-changing, one-of-a-kind furnishings, like a well-worn butcher block atop the base of a vintage architectural table. You’ll find neat rows of custom-made pillows in fabric ranging from crisp cotton to velvet; taxidermy such as antlers and a vintage turtle (they look classic, rather than creepy); cheery, striped indoor/outdoor rugs; a selection of inspiring home decorating books; pretty fabric-covered sachets (inspiration to clean out that closet!) and always gift-worthy candles, including a custom line with distinctive scents for Guesthouse.
