Vintage Shop New On BlockBy Laura OleniaczHeraldSun.com

DURHAM — Jennifer Donner, owner of the vintage clothing and accessories shop Dolly’s Vintage, said she’s always had a love for vintage and older things in general.

So it’s fitting that she is planning to reopen her shop in a new location this week at 213 W. Main St. inside a building that’s said to be about 113 years old.

Dolly’s Vintage was previously operating in a space at Brightleaf Square, and before that, Donner had operated half of The Untidy Museum on Broad Street.

Her new storefront is painted green, with a mannequin lounging in a window display wearing an electric pink wig. The window offers glimpses inside the store of a display of more wigs in a rainbow of colors, as well as a stand of hats, a pink ballet tutu hanging from the ceiling and other items.

Donner said her new location doubles the square footage of the store, so she said she’ll still sell the vintage clothing and accessories that she said can range from the 1920s to the 1980s, in addition to more gift items as well.

“I’ve always just had an appreciation for vintage clothes, I think people used to take such good care of things, nobody had as much, they didn’t have the abundance of things,” said Donner, who added that she always looked up to her two grandmothers, and admired their clothing, jewelry and other accessories. She said she named her store after one of her grandmothers.
