MERIDIAN TWP. – A burst of activity along the Grand River Avenue retail corridor is leading to new and larger businesses, and eventually new jobs.

Kellie’s Consignments has recently expanded in Okemos and plans are in the works to open a Walgreens drugstore and Ulta beauty supply store.

Meanwhile, Bargain Books has moved from the Meridian Towne Center near West Grand River Avenue and Marsh Road in Okemos to a larger location near East Grand River Avenue and Park Lake Road.

The retailers would not release the costs of their various projects.

The developments are welcome news to Meridian Township Manager Gerry Richards, who’s glad to see vacant space reused.

Richards said businesses have continued to contact the township about locating or expanding there, even during slower economic times.
