A WEEK off work in March proved a life-changing moment for a couple who have a passion for food and growing things.

Steve and Julie Walton both worked at The Garden Store in Great Billing, but during some time off, just a matter of weeks ago, they decided they wanted a less stressful life and more time to spend on their main interest: local, sustainable food.

Within weeks they found themselves opening up The Veg Box in St Leonard’s Road, Far Cotton, Northampton, which as well as selling fruit and veg, stocks local apple juice, honey, free range eggs and their own label chutneys and jams. They want to bring farm shop style shopping to the high street.

It has been quite a whirlwind from coming up with the idea, checking out the practicalities and finding premises to opening the shop for the first time just over three weeks ago.
